ICBB Receives ‘Shield of Excellence” from Israel’s Ministry of Health, January 2011

Each year the Ministry of Health’s Shield for Excellence in Health Care is awarded to six organizations and to six individuals in Israel whose outstanding activity made a special contribution to the public health and well being in Israel and the world.

At a ceremony in the Knesset, on January 11, 2011, before a large audience of distinguished public officials and invited public, the National Council for Volunteering in Israel and the Ministry of Health chose the Board of ICBB from hundreds of candidates to receive this award.

Headed by Ms. Shelly Kapusta, in recognition of her ongoing years of work to establish the Israel Cord Blood Banks, promote the procedures and regulations, anchor the government budget, to raise the awareness for the need of available cord blood units that are so vital for saving human life, and for leading the Save Hodaya Campaign.

The considerations given for its recognition include “The Shield of the Ministry of Health is conferred upon ICBB for its blessed activities to provide an anchor and a gate for hope to hundreds of patients with leukemia and genetic diseases for whom Cord Blood transplants are the only hope. Thanks to the Foundation’s activities, in July of 2010 the Cord Blood Law was passed according to which the government will support the Cord Blood Banks with 3 million shekel per year to increase the Cord Blood storage reserves available to the public at no cost.”
